changing sim-cards when traveling can be really annoying. a couple of years ago, when i was traveling extensively between sweden and germany, i always had troubles keeping track of my sim cards, missed calls and sms. back then i was actually wondering why there was no mobile phone supporting two sim cards at a time. mobile phone operators did not recognize this need.
the phone is around 80 euros. problem is that the language support is not “so sophisticated” and the phone occurs to be pretty thick compared to the nokia e50 i currently use. still, i think i have to buy one – my personal christmas present.
dual sim card mobile phone inside
some chinese mobile phone operator actually did see and understand the need. in 2007 at the cebit they presented the first dual sim mobile phones. the chinese company Gospell developed several phones supporting two sim cards simultaneously (the new version will actually support three sim cards). the phone sends two signals and can be reached through all active sim cards. it even manages to tackle between the signals. i am not sure if it is even possible of having a conference call with different people calling on different numbers. when sending a sms the phone asks which sim to use, receiving a call it shows from which number one receives (or even plays different tones).
update: munich based startup Bellpepper announced (in 2007) they will sell dual sim mobile phones in germany. the price will be around 449€.
