i have to admit that i still do not have a paypall account – and do not think that i need one. but if they make possible what they show in their visionary video i might want to have one. on 3rd of october paypall opened their platform to the developer community out their.
from a developers perspective this opens a whole new bunch of possibilities. ubiquitous computing will finally reach cash machine devices and approximates shopping and living. the boarders between social environment and shopping become transparent – or even vanish if we want them to.
i do not agree, i think we will see first applications already in 2010. with open API´s every startup can develop applications in this direction. and they are fast and lean and want to explore what is possible out there.
i am not sure if mastercard or visa have similar API´s but i am sure they will follow soon if not. the use-cases are very divers and interesting for every payment provider out there. because being implemented in an automatic shopping card payment solution (as seen in the video) will generate an extreme payment traffic (=turnover).

anything making the people spend money quicker will be welcome by huge companies. retailers will love this feature.
pretty inspiring video. yet some of the features are too futuristic.
