now first rumors say that Time Warner Cable will take over joost. and as we know those rumors are often very liable. i am not sure if it will have a positive or negative effect on joost if time warner will take over. but one is for sure: “Regardless of Joost’s future plans (endgame or otherwise), it had better gets its pieces in line quick. The popularity of online video is spreading like a wildfire, and although YouTube and Hulu have emerged as early front runners, there’s still plenty of room for disruption in the market” (Venturebeat).
we all want to know how computing will look like in future. i thought it would be interesting to post some videos about how researchers and organizations see the future of computing. enjoy video 3 of 4, The future of future interface by PopularMechanics.
multi touch displays will soon be a part of our every day life. the technique is already very well developed and ready to be used on a broad market.
the video shows very nicely the different interaction possibilities such displays offer. i like especially the idea of putting the camera or cell phone onto the display-table to interact with it. using induction it will as well be able to charge computer devices by just putting them onto the surface.

in future we will use our computers in an ubiquitous-, maybe even pervasive way. in the attached video, Paul Saffo (Stanford University) and Dr. Michio Kaku give a great overview about ‘how computers might look like’, ‘how we will use them’ and ‘how they will change our day to day life’.
very interesting is the idea of “swallowing” a computer in form of a pill; that analyzes your body from the inside and shares the information with the computer on the outside. just imagine the possibilities for the health care sector.
some of the presented ideas are no longer fiction, they are already reality. RFID chips are implemented in our clothing as well as some clothes are able to feel and measure our pulse.

microsoft has a vision. finally. MS office labs released a new video showing how computing might look like in 5+ years. the microsoft guys had a lot of great ideas such as the key in combination with the table. or the touch-screen newspaper, reminds me of the amazon reader ‘kindle’. and last but not least the mobile phone. please get me one of those!
the best idea, from my pov, is the ‘translator wall’. standing in front of each other, not speaking the same language, but still being able to communicate and learn with each other is amazing.
the video is great because it is visionary but close to reality. the only problem is: it is focused on hardware – microsoft is strong in software. maybe the company with the fruit will realize all the great ideas…
aXXo is the internet alias of an individual or group, allegedly harassed by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) for infringing copyrights by converting commercial DVD movies into computer files (Wikipedia 2008 ). more than 900 movies were labeled by aXXo until november 2008.
but who is aXXo? some think he is a single person, working in the film industry. others speak about a group of people fighting for the right of free file sharing. the swedish pirate party could be behind aXXo; to put some more rumors out there.
whoever aXXo is, i am wondering about his motivation. does he see himself as a knight fighting for the freedom of public licenses? or a rich movie nerd searching for a thrill? or a plot against the film industry?
fact is that aXXo is already a kind of brand such as “Made in Germany“; well known for its good quality. the power of the brand is very strong, nearly 33% of all illegally shared files are aXXo files.
the problem is that it will never be possible to commercialize the aXXo-brand because the owner/inventor will eventually never show himself. but i could just copy the brand and violate his copyright. would be an option, wouldn’t it, aXXo?
